Every groomer has had the client photo shoved across the counter the perfect round Bichon head off Instagram and known straight away that the dog on the table isn't built for it. This seminar is about understanding why, and what to do instead.
We work through breed conformation: eye shape, ear set, muzzle length, skull shape and coat type, and how each one changes the head you can create. We'll compare different breeds against their breed standards, then look at how to read a crossbreed head and decide which features to work with.
Mel then demonstrates live on two dogs with completely different head structures, showing how to achieve a balanced round head on both from the front and in profile and the common mistakes that turn a round head oval or a muzzle snipey.
By the end you'll be able to look at any dog and know what its head can and can't do, and explain that to your client with confidence.

Theory is one thing. Getting it out of your hands is another. This is a small, hands-on session where you put the round head into practice with Mel beside you at the table.
We start by assessing each model dog together — calling out the eye shape, ear set, muzzle length and skull, and deciding on the plan before a single scissor goes near it. Mel then demonstrates close-up on one head so you can see exactly how the shape is built.
Then it's your turn. You'll work on your own model dog while Mel moves around the room, correcting hand position, scissor angle and shape as you go, followed by dedicated one-on-one time on your dog. We finish with before and after photos and a group critique, so you leave knowing exactly what improved and what to keep working on.
This workshop is worked on a model dog. Model dogs are supplied on the day and stay at MNHQ — the fur is yours to take home. Bring your own scissors, clippers and brushes.
Capped at 10 groomers so everyone gets real table time. Best taken alongside the morning seminar, but open to anyone comfortable with scissor work.
